ANGRY TUESDAY - MIKE PATTON

Something about Tuesdays makes me angry… I don’t know what it is. Maybe because it’s such a nothing day.

Anger is an interesting emotion. It comes in many forms, just like MIKE PATTON, perhaps one of the most diverse musicians of our time. He was in FAITH NO MORE, worked with BJORK, RAHZEL, NORAH JONES, KOOL KEITH, MASSIVE ATTACK, DAN THE AUTOMATOR and AMON TOBIN as well as being in MR. BUNGLE, FANTOMAS, LOVAGE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, PEEPING TOM as well as performing with an orchestra singing 50’s and 60’s Italian songs under the guise MONDO CANE. That is a heap of work right there, but that isn’t all. He also fronted the super group TOMAHAWK.

Made up of members from bands the JESUS LIZARD, THE MELVINS, and ex-HELMET current BATTLES member JOHN STANIER, TOMAHAWK have traveled widely spruiking their darker side to audiences world wide including AUSTRALIA on the BIG DAY OUT 2002…but only in PERTH and ADELAIDE.

That is until 2003 where MIKE PATTON played a triple bill, performing in all three acts with THE MELVINS, FANTOMAS, and TOMAHAWK in all majors along the east coast as well as RADELAIDE and FREMANTLE…exhausted.

A question that you tend to ask yourself about such a prolific artist crossing the line into workaholic (which is the reason his marriage ended with Italian artist TITI ZUCCATOSTA) is what chemical stimulant keeps the man going? Well, apparently caffeine is the only drug he takes…and I’m guessing a lot of it.

MIKE PATTON lamented about the rock n roll lifestyle in a ’95 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle stating:

“It's hard to see as much as you'd like to with our schedule on the road, but it's harder to do coke and fuck whores every night. Now that's a full time job."

Indeed it would be Mike…Indeed.

I saw it only fitting for ANGRY TUESDAY to bring forth a double bill for an artist with such a large body of work. Here’s TOMAHAWK playing GOD HATES A COWARD live on CHANNEL V back in 2002 when they were out here for the BIG DAY OUT.

AND

FAITH NO MORE’s film clip for ASHES TO ASHES off their ‘97 release ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Much love was shown for the song in AUSTRALIA where it reached number 8 on the charts. It only performed better worldwide on the charts in FINLAND where it peaked at 7. Enjoy.
